The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP)
Through the African Union-sponsored New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), CAADP aims to facilitate economic growth, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty in Africa with agriculture-led development. To reach these aims, African governments have agreed to increase public investment in agriculture by a minimum of 10 percent of their national budgets and to increase agricultural productivity by at least six percent. Completely African-led and owned, CAADP represents African leaders’ collective vision for the continent’s agricultural future. The program is based on four pillars: land and water management; market access; food supply and hunger; and agricultural research. Food for Peace primarily supports Pillar 3: food supply and hunger.
