New Breedlove Program

The Office of Food for Peace would like to announce the programming of $750,000 FY 01 Title II emergency funds through a new nine-month grant agreement with the U.S. non-profit Breedlove Dehydrated Foods organization.  The grant is for the preparation (processing and packaging) of 365 metric tons of shelf-stable prepackaged commodities, and, for the establishment, stockpiling, and maintenance of those commodities.  Once produced, the commodities will be made available by Breedlove Dehydrated Foods to U.S. non-profit organizations engaged in humanitarian relief operations overseas.

This new program activity contributes to the implementation of “The International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP)”, which is a Title II food aid initiative, and is pursuant to Section 208 of the Agricultural Trade and Development and Assistance Act of 1954, as amended.  In accordance with new legislation passed by the 106th Congress and signed by the President on November 9,2000, the Agency now has the authority to provide grant agreements to U.S. non-profit producer organizations for the preparation and storage of shelf-stable prepackaged foods. The foods must be made available by the producer organizations to other U.S. non-profit distribution organizations for rapid transportation, delivery, and distribution.

The Agency is now in the process of accepting and reviewing proposals for grant agreements from U.S. non-profit distributing organizations interested in programming the transportation and distribution of the commodities now being produced by Breedlove Dehydrated Foods.
