Disaster Declared : 11/18/2005

Brief Description: Heavy rainfall caused by the convergence of two tropical systems—Tropical Storm Gamma and a low pressure system that developed on November 16, 2005, near the Honduras–Nicaragua border—resulted in flooding in the northern departments of Honduras. The flooding resulted in the deaths of 47 people, forced the evacuation of more than 5,000 people, and damaged public infrastructure and communications systems.

On November 18, U.S. Ambassador to Honduras Charles A. Ford declared a disaster due to the impact of the heavy rains.  In response, OFDA provided $125,000 through USAID/Honduras for the purchase and distribution of emergency relief supplies.
