  Avian Influenza Response
New! USAID Launches Emerging Pandemic Threats Program
USAID is launching an Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT) program that builds on the successes of the Agency's long-standing programs in disease surveillance, training, and outbreak response, particularly those addressing avian and pandemic influenza.

A Participatory Disease Surveillance (PDS) Officer speaks with villagers in Lampung Province, Indonesia, about nearby poultry. PDS teams in 166 high-risk provinces gather information about possible AI outbreaks from poultry owners and community members, and educate them about how to prevent, recognize, and report AI. Suspicious outbreaks are reported to Participatory Disease Response (PDR) teams, who work with farmers and local government to implement outbreak response and control measures.
