Pesticide and Food Safety Management Course
Amman, Jordan, October 21-24, 2007
In October of 2007, USAID staff, contractors, and local experts delivered training in pest and pesticide management in Amman, Jordan.
The course was geared largely for the needs of USAID Cognizant Technical Officers, Mission Environmental Officers, and USAID implementing partners. The course objective was to improve the awareness and competence for the design and implementation of agriculture and agribusiness projects so that they conform to regulatory requirements and meet market-based food safety and environment standards. Sessions were held on the following topics:
- Regulatory compliance and market conformity in agriculture and agribusiness projects throughout project design, implementation, and evaluation
- Pesticide use, management, and disposal
- Pesticide evaluation review and special use action plan
- Agribusiness worker health and safety
- Voluntary environmental, food safety, and social standards
- Environmental management systems
The training was led by David Gibson of Chemonics International and Dr. Alan Schroeder of The Cadmus Group. Both are experienced trainers and have worked on numerous projects linking regulatory compliance to market-based conformity systems. The course was conducted in English with emphasis on participant interaction, exercises, and case studies.
