Country Snapshot: Georgia and Trafficking

USAID's anti-trafficking efforts focus on providing outreach and enhancing economic opportunities for vulnerable groups, improving access to counseling as well as crisis centers and shelters, and strengthening the Government's capacity to prosecute traffickers.

Anti-trafficking Assistance Programs

Corruption and institutional weaknesses seriously hampered the previous government's anti-trafficking efforts.

USAID is supporting the new government's efforts to respond more effectively and to implement its National Action Plan to Combat Trafficking.

The Mission also supports the government's efforts to adopt anti-trafficking in persons (TIP) legislation along with measures to inform and educate the public, including potential victims. A national network of legal aid clinics will provide improved legal assistance to victims.
