Country Snapshot: Bangladesh's Program Objectives

USAID seeks to reduce poverty in Bangladesh through sustained economic growth and good governance. It places special emphasis on gender across all programs and within the mission.

Strategic Objectives for USAID/Bangladesh programs that include specific gender components include: Improving the quality of basic education with an emphasis on educating girls; improving family health by slowing the rate of population growth, improving child health and nutrition, and reducing vulnerability to disease; improving the treatment of women and children through human rights promotion and support of NGOs; and, aid in the prevention and prosecution of trafficking and in services provided to victims of trafficking.

This year, an Investing in Women in Development Fellow (IWID) assembled a gender team with members from each Strategic Objective and office in the mission who are working to include gender-sensitive activities and indicators in each objective within the USAID/Bangladesh portfolio. Further, they are completing a ‘gender audit’ of the mission which will assist them to mainstream gender into all aspects of mission activities and programs.
