Country Snapshot: Mali and Communications for Development

Photo of a woman broadcasting a radioshow.

USAID accelerates development by making information accessible through innovative communication techniques and appropriate tools.

The Special Objective supports Mali’s private FM radio network (currently over 150 stations), produces and disseminates radio programming on a wide range of development topics, trains radio stations staff in program production and station management, and establishes linkages between radio and the Internet.

The special objective provides technical assistance to the Mission’s Strategic Objectives teams and their partners in information and communications technologies, and provides radio and computer equipment for selected local institutions. In short, this program creates opportunities for Mali to participate in the Information Society as it applies to development, and to bridge the digital divide.
