Country Snapshot: Guinea and Food Security

Photo of a female harvesting a crop.

USAID supports organizations like the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) a faith-based organization - to organize women’s agricultural cooperatives and contribute to food security in one of the poorest regions of Guinea.

In Walikaly village, ADRA’s new agricultural techniques have resulted in more profitable yields. Walikaly women no longer have to do hazardous work in the nearby gold mines. ADRA helps 133 women’s agricultural groups in the Siguiri area improve soil quality with natural fertilizer and better planting and transplanting techniques, and teaches literacy and numeracy classes.
