Country Snapshot: Benin and Platform on Gender and Development

Photo of native woman.

USAID/Benin is strengthening civil society by promoting women’s role in decision-making. It supported a network of women’s NGOs to conduct a needs assessment and write a platform on gender and development in 2001.

USAID, with the NGO network Centre de Formation des Femmes Africaines en Management et en Entrepreunariat (CEFAME), the Group for the Promotion of Female Participation in Decision making (G/PIFeD) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Family, have used this platform to win support for programs to increase women’s business management skills, and increase their ability to design, manage and evaluate small businesses and micro projects.
