Country Snapshot: Benin's Program Objectives

Photo of a woman stading in a field holding food in her hand.

USAID/Benin was re-established in December 1991. Programs focus on three main areas: improving the quality of education with an emphasis on educating girls; improving family health by preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS, encouraging the use of modern family planning methods, and promoting children’s health; and improving government management and participation of community groups in governance issues that touch on education, health and livelihoods.

USAID/Benin’s program objectives with a gender component include: improving basic education with an emphasis on including girls; improving family health by encouraging family planning and child health, and prevention of HIV/AIDS; and improving government management of health, education and rural development sectors.
