The Gender Integration Workshop included a field visit to the Masr il'Mahroussa project south of Cairo, where staff discussed efforts to provide mediation services as an alternative to the traditional justice channels. A large majority of their clients are women.
November 9-13, 2008, Cairo, Egypt
Supported by USAID/Cairo and the Office of Women in Development (WID)

The Gender Integration Workshop provided opportunities for USAID and its partners from the Middle East region (and beyond) to share experiences and strengthen understandings of gender analysis in the context of USAID's development efforts.

Workshop topics ranged from indicator development to donor coordination to the gender dimensions of climate change.

Participants included Mission staff from Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Sudan, Afghanistan, and the recently established Office of Middle East Coordination (OMEP). Also attending were a number of implementing partners and NGOs.

The workshop was organized by the Short-Term Technical Assistance and Training (STTA) project with support from USAID/Cairo and the WID Office.

December 3-4, 2008, Nairobi, Kenya
Sponsored by the WID Office through the Greater Access to Trade Expansion (GATE) Project

This workshop brought together USAID staff and implementing partners from four East African countries to explore the importance of gender issues in economic growth and trade activities.

The workshop objectives were to share results of four years of work in this area by the GATE Project, generate additional best practices in addressing gender issues in economic growth activities, stimulate regional dialogue on GATE’s work and best practices, and discuss important gender-related issues in USAID economic growth programs.

Representatives from USAID funded economic growth and trade projects in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda participated in the workshop.
