 Environmental education & communication for a sustainable world : handbook for international practitioners 01/01/2000 (1.8MB)
This manual shares experiences, information, and models of working in education and communication. It is divided into four sections as described below:
- provides an orientation to four theoretical perspectives that have shaped GreenCOM's approach to environmental education and communication (EE&C) projects: behavior change, participation, gender, and systems thinking;
- offers a variety of GreenCOM experiences that illustrate the basic process of designing education and communication programs: needs assessment, formative research, pre-testing, and evaluation;
- looks at staff and participant training workshops, mass media campaigns, and how EE&C can affect public policy;
- highlights several successful countrywide strategies from GreenCOM's field experience.

This final report of the African Women Leaders in Agriculture and the Environment (AWLAE) program provides an overview of the activities implemented and results achieved under the program. The goal of the program was to increase the participation and leadership of African women at all levels of agricultural and environmental activity. The program focused on helping professional women advance so that they might become stronger advocates for policies and programs that benefit women farmers.
Kenya
 A Gender Assessment of Sustainable Conservation-Oriented Enterprises [in Kenya]: Final Report 03/28/2008 (500KB)
This report presents the findings of a gender assessment of sustainable conservation-oriented enterprises, which was conducted under the WID-funded Greater Access to Trade Expansion (GATE) Project. It is based on the findings of a gender assessment team that spent three weeks in Kenya in 2007. It also builds on a desktop review of activities in other parts of the country. The objectives of the study were to:
- identify specific business development constraints facing men and women engaged in nature-based income-generating activities, and
- recommend strategies and interventions to increase the socio-economic benefits of biodiversity conservation through nature-based enterprises.

 Gender Training Materials: Integrating Gender into USAID/Kenya's Programs for Agriculture, Business, and the Environment 09/01/2007 (1.1MB)
This book of Gender Training Materials, prepared by the USAID-funded Greater Access to Trade Expansion (GATE) Project and tailored to the needs of the USAID/Kenya Mission, supports the Mission's commitment to gender integration for activities related to Economic Growth and Trade. It was used during a September 2007 workshop for USAID/Kenya staff and partners working on Strategic Objective (SO) 7 and 5. The materials are directed to the staff of the Agriculture, Business and Environment Office (ABEO) Team as well as partner organizations. They are designed to increase participants' knowledge, skills, and confidence in asking the right gender questions, finding the necessary data and assistance to answer these questions, and developing appropriate program interventions to meet gender-related targets.

 Manual for implementing a gender equity approach in Guatemala's land-legalization process 08/01/2002 (306KB)
This report is part of a series of publications that address the gender dimensions within four areas of USAID/Guatemala's Strategic Objective 5, "Improved Natural Resources Management and Biodiversity Conservation," (1) Economic activities; (2) Sustainable use of natural resources; (3) Policy, laws, and regulations analysis; and (4) Strengthening of local NGOs. This publication is the English translation of a training manual on implementing a gender equity approach in Guatemala's land-legalization process. The annexes contain the original training manual in Spanish as well as the study on land tenure and gender (also in Spanish) that served as the basis for this training manual.

 Gender assessment of USAID/Mexico environment program with focus on Conservation International's Usumacinta watershed program in Chiapas 11/01/2004 (282KB)
The purpose of this Gender Assessment, through the assistance of the Office of Women in Development, is to help the USAID Mexico Environment Program and its NGO partners build stronger linkages between environmental issues, economic growth, and gender equity. The specific goal of the assessment was to understand key gender issues affecting poverty and, as a result, natural resource use in local communities. A specific focus has been placed on the activities of Conservation International's Usumacinta Watershed Management Program in Chiapas as well as ecotourism activities conducted through this program.

 Gender Training Materials: Integrating Gender into Economic Growth and Environmental Programs and Analysis 03/01/2007 (644KB)
This book of gender training materials, prepared by the WID-funded GATE Project, is intended to be used during four different workshops planned for USAID/Peru staff, contractors, and grantees. It is primarily designed to help Mission staff on the Economic Growth and Environment Team increase their knowledge, skills, and confidence in asking the right gender questions, finding the necessary data and assistance to answer these questions, and developing appropriate program interventions to meet gender-related targets. Its goal is to support Mission staff in their efforts to use USAID programs as a means of enhancing the abilities of men and women, including the poorest citizens, so that they can proactively seize the new opportunities presented by trade and economic growth activities.
