Workshop: Community Infrastructure in Conflict-Affected Societies

October 14--15

Over 40 USAID staff–past and present–participated in the October 14-15, 2004 workshop on Community Infrastructure in Conflict-Affected Societies: Improving the Effectiveness of Community-Based Reconstruction Programs for Reconciliation.

Over the years USAID has implemented Community-Based Infrastructure programs in all regions, ranging from earlier programs in countries such as Nicaragua, El Salvador, and the Philippines to more recent endeavors in the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

The Workshop, jointly-organized by DCHA's Offices of Conflict Management and Mitigation and Transition Initiatives and by EGAT's Office of Urban Programs, succeeded in its goal of distilling numerous lessons of experience. These findings will be offered as guidance in a forthcoming resource guide for field staff charged with design and implementation of these programs.
