In the 2004, 2005, and 2009 elections, The Asia Foundation provided support for the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) observation missions (in 2004 ANFREL deployed the only international observation mission to Afghanistan). For the upcoming 2010 elections, The Asia Foundation (TAF) proposes to support an ANFREL election observation mission to deploy 30 Long-Term Observers, 30 Short-Term Observers, and four experienced analysts that will work in coordination with indigenous NGOs, citizen groups, and international donors to observe, monitor, and report on the 2010 Afghanistan Wolisi Jirga elections. TAF/ANFREL will provide technical assistance to build the local institutional capacity of the Fair Elections Foundation for Afghanistan (FEFA).
