Care for Life
(CFL), Gombe |
The Care For Life project aims
at improving the health and well being of youth (10 -24 years) in
Gombe State, Northwest of Nigeria through increased access to quality
adolescent reproductive health information and services. Two of the
project communities - Billiri and Kaltungo - are transit towns for
long distance travelers from the North to the East or vice versa are
therefore social action points for the thousands of rural people migrating
to the urban cities or those visiting their rural homes from big cities.
These encourage high rate of sexual activities, especially among young
people. These could be responsible for the high incidence of teenage
pregnancies, unsafe abortion, STIs and HIV/AIDS infections -and other
adolescent reproductive health problems among young people in the
project areas. To address the issues of teenage pregnancy, abortions
and STIs/HIV/AIDS, the project is undertaking Peer Health Education
and provision of Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) services for
both in and out of school youth.Other project activities will include
advocacy visits to opinion leaders on ARH issues, Training/Capacity
building for project staff and clinic staff, and improving parent-child
communication. Several behaviour change communication strategies e.g.
drama and concerts, community rallies, etc are also being carried
