(GOTIT), Otukpo |
In Otukpo metropolis there
is lack of sexual and reproductive health information among the adolescents.
This probably accounts for the early initiation of sexual activities/relationships
leading often times to unwanted pregnancy and the attendant risk of
STI/HIV infection. GOTIT seeks to make the youth have self-security
while making them proactive and responsible for their lives through
informed decisions. To this end, various activities have been earmarked
including trainings, advocacy visits to opinion leaders, IEC/BCC activities,
and non-clinical service delivery. The project is being carried out
at various locations in Otukpo, Benue State. |

Kanyin Idoma Women Association - Otukpo |
The high prevalence
of HIV/AIDS in many communities in Benue State has invariably led
to an increasing number of children who are orphaned, due to parental
death from AIDS-related diseases. As the death rate increases, caregivers
are becoming fewer, thereby increasing the burden of orphans and their
caregivers. Given the difficult circumstances surrounding the death
of a loved one, there is an urgent need to address psychosocial support
for both the children and their caregivers.. Caregivers and orphans
have multiple burdens they face for which they need counseling, support
and follow up, to enable them carry on with living. To address these
challenges, the Opiatoha Women HIV/AIDS management project intends
to carry out awareness raising by rallies and IEC materials to combat
stigma and discrimination against PLWHAs and OVC; training in HIV
counseling; training in care and support of people living with and
affected by AIDS; provide psychosocial support; create an enabling
environment through advocacy and provide skills acquisition to care
givers and orphans to increase their economic base. This project is
in 4 communities in Otukpo LGA. The ethnic groups are mostly Idoma.
They are predominantly Christians and the language spoken, which will
be used to implement the project, is Idoma as well as English. ????? |
