USAID Assistant Administrator Lindborg Describes Humanitarian Assistance Efforts for Syrian Refugees

On January 27 and 28, 2013, Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne C. Richard, and USAID Assistant Administrator for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance Nancy Lindborg visited Syrian refugees in Jordan. They visited the Zaatari refugee camp, a refugee processing center at a Syria-Jordan border crossing, and a food voucher distribution center.

Transcript

USAID Assistant Administrator Lindborg: So at midnight last night we were at the border between Syria and Jordan where we watched and talked to hundreds of families who were fleeing villages that were being bombed by the Syrian regime. Often just carrying what they could grab. This morning we were at the Zaatari camp where we saw them being given tents and mattresses. The United States is so committed to helping these folks, the Syrian people, in their time of need.
