  • On November 7, WHO released new safe and dignified burial-practice protocols for handling the bodies of deceased EVD patients, emphasizing the inclusion of family members and encouraging religious rites as essential parts of the burials. The guidelines support efforts to reduce EVD transmission through proper dead body management—a pressing need given that as many as one in five EVD infections occur during burials, according to WHO.
  • The GoS announced plans to re-open its border with Guinea and plans to allow commercial flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone to resume. President of Senegal Macky Sall noted that the decision follows the recommendations of the Economic Community of West African States to re-open borders with EVD-affected states.
  • Sierra Leone’s Koinadugu District—the latest district of Sierra Leone to become affected by EVD—has experienced 50 EVD-related deaths since mid-October, according to the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) and the U.N. Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER). Health and response personnel have confirmed approximately 60 EVD cases in the district and more than 200 people have been placed in isolation to reduce EVD transmission.

The USAID Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems Project (ASSIST) supports the Ministries of Health, the Ministry of Labor Social Security and Services, and other relevant partners to design, develop and implement strategies that enhance the quality of service delivery in the health sector and the care of orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya.  The activity is guided by the National Health Sector Strategic Plan II and the Ministry of Labor Social Security and Services outlined priorities for improving quality of services.

USAID/Kenya supports an integrated service delivery model to improve the health of Kenyans in all 47 counties. AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance Program, also known as APHIAplus, Health Communications and Marketing uses social marketing and behavior change communication to promote healthy behavior and increased access to health services and products. The program focuses on HIV, malaria, family planning, and maternal/child/neonatal health.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training is a five-year project that enables teachers to better prepare youth for employment in the Lower Mekong countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam though the use of innovative training approaches.

В рамках этого проекта сеть «Интерньюс» в Кыргызской Республике оказывает поддержку местным телеканалам по всей стране, предоставляя малые гранты и техническую помощь для производства высококачественных социально ориентированных программ. Кроме того, сеть оказывает правовую поддержку в рамках партнерства с местными организациями для совершенствования законодательства в сфере СМИ Кыргызстана и, при необходимости, защиты прав средств массовой информации и журналистов. В рамках проекта журналистам, чиновникам и широкой общественности рассказывают о значении и роли наблюдателя, которую играет резонирующий, независимый сектор СМИ.

The Media Support Initiative (MSI) targets audiences and media communities in five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Within this project, Internews Network in the Kyrgyz Republic supports local TV stations around the country with the provision of small grants and technical assistance for the production of high-quality, socially-oriented programming. It also provides legal support through partnerships with local organizations to improve Kyrgyzstan’s media legislation and to protect the rights of media outlets and journalists when needed. The project educates journalists, government officials, and the public about the importance and watchdog role of a vibrant, independent media sector.

Программа правовой поддержки гражданскому обществу – это рассчитанный на пять лет проект, в рамках которого организации гражданского общества, правительства и специалисты в области права получают технические и специальные знания для продвижения эффективной разработки и внедрения законодательства, регулирующего гражданское общество. Реализация программы началась в сентябре 2010 года и завершится  в сентябре 2015 года. 

The Legal Support to Civil Society Program is a five-year regional project providing technical legal expertise to civil society organizations (CSOs), national governments, and law specialists to promote effective development and implementation of legislation regulating civil society. This program, which began in September 2010 and will end in September 2014, is implemented by the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL).

Проект USAID «Региональная безопасность, энергетика и торговля» (RESET) помогает правительству Кыргызской Республики в реализации ее политики по энергетической безопасности и эффективности. Эта работа включает продвижение реформ энергетического сектора, которые окажут наибольшее влияние на поддержание надежного энергообеспечения Кыргызстана, бесперебойное энергоснабжение в зимнее и жаркое время года, а также развитие регионального рынка энергии, что сделает практичным и выгодным развитие обширных гидроэнергетических ресурсов, которыми обладает республика.

The three-year USAID Regional Energy, Security and Trade Project (RESET) provides assistance to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the implementation of its Energy Security and Efficiency policy agenda. This includes the promotion of energy sector reforms that will have the greatest impact on maintaining reliable electricity service in the Kyrgyz Republic, assuring secure supply in winter and dry years and in developing a regional energy market that would make the development of the country’s vast hydropower resources feasible and profitable.
