17 September 2009

Recently, the National Director of Public Health made a brief presentation on the revitalization of the community health worker (Agentes Polivalentes de Saúde - APE) program to the Minister of Health, who applauded the initiative, emphasized the issue of program sustainability for the coming years, and requested a response from partners on the availability of funding to support the first phase of program implementation, which would begin the first quarter of 2010. USAID helped define the role of the new APEs and will continue to support for training and supervision.
