ICA International Co-operative Day / United Nations International Day of Co-operatives
IMPPACTS hosted a workshop in July entitled “How to Improve Cooperative Businesses”. Participants included cooperatives, cooperative unions, secondary cooperatives, and business incubator centers working in sectors such as wool production, vegetable growing, carpenters and skilled craftsmen/women. Also in attendance was Member of Parliament and Vice-Speaker Enkhbold N., who serves as head of the umbrella cooperative union covering all five major co-op unions. A common message from the workshop attendees was that, in light of the current economic environment, co-ops need to strengthen their member businesses in order to be stronger cooperatives.
Group Activity Definition – Khan Yembuu
IMPPACTS collaborated with MASP on the group activity workshops in July. The fragmented supply dynamics of the Mongolia milk sector present many cooperative opportunities for small farmers to group together to more effectively work with resource-strapped lead firms (processors).
National Cooperative Assessment (NCA)
CHF developed a framework and secured initial data to assess 1,669 cooperatives nation-wide in July. The NCA is being conducted in collaboration with National Ministry of Food & Agriculture, an SME agency, and the National Cooperative Development Program, and will be the first critical step to create a cooperative development strategy and define how cooperatives can play a pivotal role in the development of Mongolia.
