Cooperative Law Working Group
This month the working group received a response from the Ministry of Justice regarding the proposed law amendments. The letter identified areas in the proposed amendments that need further clarification. The issues highlighted include: the non-profit status of coops, auditing responsibilities, insurance activities and the registration process of coops. After receiving the letter, the working group met and prepared a plan for updating the amendments. The Cooperative Law Working Group hopes to have a revised version ready for resubmission to the Ministry prior to the start of Parliament’s spring session.
Production and Service Coop Union Meeting
IMPPACTS provided a one day workshop on the coop law changes, at the Production Service Coop Union's 2009 meeting. IMPPACTS gave a summary of the amendments and the activities of the working group. Representatives of coops from16 provinces took part in the discussion and shared their opinions on the coop law amendments and the progress of the working groups.
