Project geographic coverage: 11 cercles (Kati / Ouéléssébougou, Fana / Dioila, Sikasso, Kadiolo, Koutiala, Ségou / Markala, San, Bandiagara, Timbuktu, Gao and Kidal) and communes 1 & 4 of Bamako.

Project objective: By the year 2008, the project will improve on the quality and use of high impact health services and promote the adoption of the best health practices in the 11 cercles and 2 commune districts of Bamako.

>STI/HIV/AIDS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION PROJECT

Project time line: 1/July/2003 – 30/June/2006

Project geographic coverage: national

Project objective:To provide technical assistance to the PNLS, MOH, INRSP, and NGO networks in STI/HIV prevention and care, including STI/HIV control and risk reduction among vulnerable populations and improved surveillance.

Project key activities:
• Strengthening of PNLS and MOH capacity for development, review and dissemination of documents relating to service delivery norms, standards and procedures for key STI/ HIV/AIDS services.
• Strengthening of PNLS capacity for HIV/STI surveillance;
• Improving STI control through strengthened case management and development of local NGOs and high risk zones’ health services capacity for STI care services for vulnerable groups;
• Supporting the integration of basic STI/HIV/AIDS case reporting into the MOH Health Information and Management System
• Reinforce PNLS technical and operational capacity to respond to HIV/AIDS program coordination needs
• Strengthening the capacity of the National Reference Public Health Laboratory for STI/HIV/AIDS related diagnosis, surveillance, and operation research.
