>CLIC –Community Learning and Information Centers

Project time line: September 2005 to January 2007

Project objective: Provide reliable public access to a wide range of development related information through ICT. The community Learning and Information Centers are designed to meet community needs and actively support development objectives of the Government of Mali and USAID/Mali.

Project key activities:
Under the CLIC project, thirteen telecenters have been established across Mali, from Kidal in the north to Kangaba in the south. The CLICs are public fee-for-use access centers where people can use e-mail, Internet, telephone, do word processing, receive computer training, listen to radio via World Space receivers etc. The CLICs are also offering digital, paper-based and audio content in the main strategic objective areas of USAID - namely health, education (teacher training), agribusiness, and civil society/governance. In this regard, the CLICs will also be encouraged to catalyze the development of local content and share this information with the other CLICs.

Each of the CLICs is being sponsored by an SO team at the Mali Mission and is operated by a local Malian organization that corresponds with that SO. It is important to note that all 13 CLICs must offer content in all the SO areas and be open to all residents of their particular communities. The CLICs are also encouraged to partner with local radio stations so as to expand the coverage and impact of the content (and in fact, two of the CLICs are operated by radio stations in Kadiolo at Radio Folona and in Djenne at radio Jamana). Project geographic coverage: Mali :Kangaba, Bougoula, Ouelessebougou, Bougouni, Kadiolo,Bamako, Segou, Macina, Mopti, Djenne, Bandiagara, Gao, Kidal USAID principal contact: Martine Keita CTO
