USAID and CDEG to promote E-governance

PRESS RELEASE
July 7, 2006

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through its implementing partner, Misonga, will donate 17 computers to the E-governance Development Committee (CDEG) at a ceremony on Friday July 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presidency. This gift will build the Committee’s capacity to provide necessary training through e-learning and e-coaching to senior government officials, technicians and employees toward achieving the e-governance goal.

USAID/Misonga, in collaboration with the Government of Madagascar and other partners, has provided technical and financial support to the CDEG to complete the steps to develop the National E-governance Policy. USAID provided support in the amount of $90,000 to the Government of Madagascar for other on-going e-governance activities, including design, development and updating of GOM’s website, and establishment of e-governance pilot site.

The USAID/Misonga has also, in collaboration with GOM and along with other partners, technically and financially supported CDEG in completing the steps to develop the National E-governance Policy. USAID has provided a technical and financial support in the amount of US$ 90,000 to GOM for other on-going e-governance activities, including development, updating, on-lining of GOM’s portal, and establishment of e-governance pilot site.

Regional workshops were held in February in the provincial capitals of Madagascar. The results, which made up the National E-Governance Policy (PNEG), were discussed and validated during a USAID-funded national workshop held in April. The institutional implementation framework was signed into law on May 25, 2005. The PNEG contains the achievements made so far, the activities to be completed in the field of e-governance until 2007, and an overall vision by the year 2010. To improve the working of the administration for the political, economic, and social development of the country, the government of Madagascar has decided to fully utilize the Information and Communication Technologies in implementing good governance in Madagascar. USAID, through this gift, continues to support CDEG’s efforts in carrying out the activities under PNEG.
