Over 30 years of collaboration with the Moroccan government, the American people contributed $126 million to Moroccan efforts to have smaller, healthier families. This partnership resulted in a 67% decline in Moroccan infant deaths and a 47% decrease in Moroccan mothers dying in childbirth. The number of children born per woman fell from seven in 1979 to three in 1997. The models developed to provide healthcare and health education still serve millions of Moroccan women and children.
