Gravel Beach South Before
Caption: Adjacent to Byblos, this gravel beach was heavily polluted with oil from one foot to over two feet thick throughout the entire beach covering an area of almost an acre. The oil layer had penetrated deep into gravel and tar mats existed below the surface. The beach was also contaminated with large amounts of oiled debris and spotted oil. USAID removed 1,696 bags of oiled debris at this site.
