USAID Opens New Business Center in Halba
April 29, 2009US Ambassador Michele J. Sison and USAID/Lebanon Mission Director Denise A. Herbol participated in the opening ceremony of the Business Development Center at the Municipality of Halba. The center was established to provide services to all businesses and communities in the Akkar area. USAID provided $75,000 to the center for furniture, computers, website development and training services. The establishment of the center falls within the context of the $11 million, three-year USAID Empowering Municipalities through Local Economic Development (EMLED) program, which is implemented by Relief International. The EMLED or “Al Baladiyat” project supports the creation of local economic development in over 130 rural municipalities. One aspect of this project specifically provides $4 million to support fifteen Lebanese municipalities located near the Nahr al Bared Palestinian Refugee Camp in Akkar in North Lebanon.
