U.S. GOVERNMENT OPENS TWO PROJECTS FOR $81,000 IN KESERWAN AND PRESENTS $50,000 TO THE FRANCISCAINES DE LA CROIX CENTER IN SHLIFA/BAALBACKWednesday, December 17, 2008Beirut, Lebanon The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director, Denise A. Herbol, opened two USAID-funded projects in Keserwan and presented $50,000 to the Franciscaines de la Croix du Liban. The Father Robert’s Institute for the Young Deaf in Sehaile received $49,000 from USAID to upgrade and expand vocational training facilities targeting hearing-impaired children, create jobs and generate income to better support the institute’s benevolent activities. With USAID’s grant, the institute procured equipment for the sewing workshop, audio-visual materials and computers that benefit 110 students per year. Maison St. Joseph for Daughters of Charity in Ajaltoun received $32,000 from USAID to improve the housing conditions of disadvantaged vulnerable children residing at the orphanage. With USAID’s grant, the organization procured dormitory furniture that benefits 175 children per year. USAID also presented a $50,000 check to the Franciscaines de la Croix du Liban for its center in Shlifa in Baalbeck. The center cares for sixty-three elderly and disabled individuals and provides medical care for 1,800 patients per year. USAID has worked in Lebanon since 1951 and implemented development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. With funds from the American people, USAID creates jobs, invests in youth and protects the environment. USAID’s work reflects the strong friendship between the Lebanese and American people. |
