THE UNITED STATES SUPPORTS AN ORPHANAGE IN AJALTOUN

On August 25, 2008, the U.S. Embassy through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Acting Mission Director, R. David Harden, presented a $32,000 check to the Saint Joseph Orphanage, Ajaltoun, Keserwan. 

This assistance will improve the facilities at the orphanage which serves 300 young boys.

Saint Joseph Orphanage is a Lebanese non-governmental organization which shelters and educates 150 boys, aged 5-13, who are in residence and from throughout Lebanon.  In addition, another 150 boys from the surrounding area are educated at the orphanage.  The orphanage receives donations, and, assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Education.

USAID has worked in Lebanon since 1951, funding development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. With funds from the American people, USAID creates jobs, invests in youth and protects the environment in Lebanon.  USAID’s work reflects the strong friendship between the Lebanese and American people.
