U.S. GOVERNMENT PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 985 STUDENTS AT THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUTTuesday, January 08, 2008Beirut, Lebanon U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Bill Grant, accompanied by United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef, joined American University of Beirut president John Waterbury to congratulate students receiving full and partial scholarship assistance from U.S. Government grant assistance. In total, 985 undergraduate students will benefit from a $3 million grant provided to the American University of Beirut by the American people through USAID. The student recipients attended the ceremony along with faculty members and administrators from the American University of Beirut. The United States is committed to the importance of education in Lebanon and for Lebanese. In the last ten years, the American people, through the Congress of the United States, have contributed over 90 million dollars to Lebanese education. U.S. assistance supports education at all levels in Lebanon through the Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the well-known J. William Fulbright program and the Middle East Partnership Initiative. |
