A Timeline of Events

Date Event
4/22/03 Bechtel team arrives in Kuwait. Initial activities for power reconstruction begin.
4/24/03 Electricity generation is 1,275 Megawatts (MW), 23% of the pre-conflict level of 5,500 MW.
4/28/03 All power plants in Southern Iraq are operational, but at reduced loads as a result of power line breaks.
4/29/03 In Basra, the two major power plants have improved their electricity generation from 35% of the pre-conflict level to 80% of that level, and the oil refinery began operations. Electricity generation nationwide is approximately 1,800 MW.
5/09/03 Electricity generation is 1,992 MW nationwide.
5/21/03 Electricity generation at 2,300 MW nationwide; repairs continued on transmission lines.
5/22/03 Five job orders issued for power repairs. Only one of the five is related to damage from the war.
5/30/03 Electricity generation is 3,100 MW nationwide and 1,150 MW in Baghdad.
6/02/03 Electricity is 3,180 MW nationwide.
6/04/03 Electricity is 3,476 MW nationwide, 1,300 MW in Baghdad.
6/10/03 Electricity is available 18 hours per day in Baghdad.
