Description:
Nearly twenty-two percent of couples in Uttar Pradesh and twenty-three percent in Jharkand have an unmet need for family planning meaning they would like to use family planning methods, but for a variety of reasons they are unable to do so. The Addressing Unmet Need for Family Planning in Maternal and Child Health Program responds to that significant unmet need for family planning by increasing the supply of family planning services through training of clinical providers in family planning innovation and quality.
The project wil:
- Revitalize the use of the intrauterine devices (IUD) in India by providing technical expertise to support IUD clinical training for medical officers and nurses;
- Support the increase of post-partum insertion of IUD's through various advocacy fora with GOI and private sectors providers;
- Improve the quality of IUD clinical training through development of training and supervision guidelines;
- Document and evaluate the Government of India's efforts to revitalize IUD use in India; and
- Conduct a training-needs assessment, including both clinicians and training institutions in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Based on results of needs assessment, develop a strategy for improving existing family planning clinical training sites in both states to become family planning Centers of Excellence.
