U.S. Provides Emergency Flood Relief to India

NEW DELHI -- The U.S. Ambassador to India, David C. Mulford, announced that the United States is providing Rs. 44.5 lakhs (USD 100,000) to India as immediate humanitarian relief for the floods resulting from the December 26 tsumani.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today, Ambassador Mulford expressed on behalf of the people and government of the United States his sincere condolences to the people of India in the face of the earthquake and tsunami in the Bay of Bengal.
This preliminary contribution will go to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Indian Red Cross. Ambassador Mulford added that the United States stands willing to assist India in any other way that would be helpful.
These funds have been made available from the Ambassador's Humanitarian Relief Fund and are provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance.
