LUDHIANA -- U.S. Ambassador to India David C. Mulford visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here today to discuss agricultural issues and developments with the faculty and staff of this prestigious institution. Enroute to the University, the Ambassador visited farms and markets to understand the agricultural scenario of Punjab.
Speaking at the University, Ambassador Mulford announced a grant of US $ 300,000 given recently by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the Ohio State University to partner with PAU in a Higher Education Partnership Program.
The grant supports collaboration to promote agricultural diversification and the transformation of raw food products into quality, high-value commodities with extended shelf life and potential for export. Several new teaching, research and extension programs will be initiated at PAU.
The U.S. Mission is proud to have been a part of the establishment of PAU in 1962 and a supporter of cooperation with U.S. universities since then.
PAU has played a key role in the dramatic increase in the Punjab's food grain production, and ushering in India's Green Revolution. It has also made notable contributions in increasing livestock and poultry production. In recognition of its outstanding achievements in agricultural research, education and extension, Punjab Agricultural University was adjudged the Best Agricultural University in India in 1995.
