Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Reducing the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while at the same time increasing energy productivity and efficiency sound mutually exclusive. Yet, USAID/India's Energy, Environment and Enterprise Office found that it could do just that.

Its implementing partner, the Center for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection (CENPEEP), part of the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), functions as a resource center for acquisition, demonstration and dissemination of advanced, efficient technologies in the power sector. The project objectives are being achieved by optimizing the performance of existing power plants by introducing new techniques and practices.

This seemingly simple approach has proven low cost but high impact: CENPEEP was awarded the Climate Technology Institute's 2002 Award for its accomplishments in climate change activities in a developing country, having demonstrated exceptional performance in promoting more rapid development and diffusion of climate-friendly technologies and practices.
