Regulation Compliance

Honduras’s natural resource base is fragile and under increasing human and natural pressures that threaten to undermine the economy and adversely impact the livelihoods of thousands of families.  In addition, Honduras’s economic growth substantially depends on compliance with the provisions of CAFTA’s Environmental Cooperation Agreement (ECA). USAID supports ECA compliance, ensuring that critical natural resources are not only preserved but also contribute to a robust economy. It also provides technical assistance and training for local communities, companies, Non Government Organizations, and the Government of Honduras on the regulation and compliance of the ECA.

USAID helps local governments implement watershed management plans that were prepared in previous years.  These plans promote integrated natural resource management practices, including the enforcement of local environmental regulations, the protection of municipal forest lands around community water sources, and the promotion of environmentally sustainable agricultural and forestry practices. These efforts also help increase household income for community members whose livelihoods depend on natural resources.
