Economic Freedom: Open, Diversified, Expanding Economies

Checking the quality of the produce at an agriculture processing center.USAID places strong emphasis on improving competitive market-led growth and integrated resource management in targeted areas. USAID is reinforcing Honduran efforts to upgrade its laws, policies, and regulations that promote trade and investment, with particular attention to the implementation of Honduras ’ commitments under the US-Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), and the enhancement of the country’s trade competitiveness. USAID is also promoting more competitive, market-oriented private enterprise with particular attention on small rural land holders and micro, small, and medium enterprises by increasing productivity and creating linkages between agricultural production in rural areas to relatively higher value processing and marketing enterprise in urban areas.

At the same time, USAID's integrated watershed resources management program recognizes the tangible benefits and values of natural resources in economic productivity. USAID is focusing on the sustainable use of resources in target watershed, conservation of biodiversity, and disaster mitigation.

The programs are:

Laws, Policies, and Regulations that Promote Trade and Investment

More Competitive, Market-Oriented Private Enterprises

Improved Management and Conservation of Critical Watersheds
