Biodiversity

USAID’s Environmental Resource Management program works under the premise that conservation of the natural resource is only sustainable when the market economy recognizes the benefits of conservation. USAID works in programs that increase the value of natural resources in economic production.

In protected areas where resource management and protection are well developed and sustainable, USAID provides technical assistance that promotes ecotourism to increase income. USAID provides technical assistance to Non Government Organizations that manage national parks, to strengthen their capacity to manage basic protected areas and the conservation of biodiversity. USAID helps these organizations develop strategies for long-term financial sustainability, build capacity to analyze threats to biodiversity, and elaborate, implement, and monitor protected area management plans.  The program also helps these Non Government Organizations understand the changes in the policy framework for protected area management.
