We are pleased to provide you with information on our current direction and activities in Ghana. This site provides you information about our Mission's programs in democracy and governance, economic growth, health, and basic education, in addition to Food for Peace. We also provide you with details and stories of how children, women, men, families and communities in Ghana make effective use of USAID support that results in a better quality of life for Ghanaians.
USAID's vision is to empower Ghanaians to build a prosperous nation. We are assisting key governance institutions to be more responsive to citizens' requests and increasingly encouraging civic participation in the country's democratic process. We are supporting farmers in their effort to increase production and quality of produce, enabling them to sell in foreign markets. Our activities to enhance quality health care include: expanding access to health services, protecting children against malaria and other infectious diseases; increasing access to potable water and sanitation facilities; supporting family planning; and increasing institutional capacity to plan and manage health programs. In basic education, USAID/Ghana assists girls' education, promotes community participation in schools, and improves reading skills.
The success of our programs and activities has been achieved through the combined efforts of the Government of Ghana, implementing partners and dedicated staff of USAID, working in partnership with the people of Ghana. We are pleased that as a result of good policies, Ghana is one of the best performing developing countries in Africa, and in 2006 became a Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC) country, qualifying for additional U.S. Government Millennium Challenge Account investment.
We hope this website will answer many of your questions about USAID/Ghana. We welcome your interest and encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments.
