About El Salvador
El Salvador is one of four countries worldwide participating in President Barack Obama's Partnership for Growth (PFG) initiative, a partnership between the United States and a select group of countries to accelerate and sustain broad-based economic growth. USAID programs in El Salvador are aligned with, and contribute to, achieving the PFG goal to expand broad-based economic growth in a more secure El Salvador.
Security activities help strengthen the justice system and government accountability, reduce community crime and violence, and improve education for secondary students and out-of-school youth. Economic assistance helps create a better business environment and to increase the productivity and competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in export markets.
Through its Central American Regional Program, USAID supports key foreign assistance objectives that have a regional or global impact, including citizen security, trade, climate change, food security, and HIV/AIDS prevention.
