USAID promotes transparent government administration; strengthens justice institutions; encourages policy reform; and broadens and deepens civil society participation in politics.
The democracy and governance program provides assistance to help justice system institutions, particularly the Public Ministry and the National Police, be more effective and efficient and enhance their inter-institutional coordination to achieve common policy goals. USAID also helps strengthen institutional mechanisms that encourage ethical behavior and prevent corruption and abuse.
USAID’s work with civil society in the Dominican Republic encourages the formation of coalitions, consortia, and networks in order to more effectively achieve goals; and promotes participation, advocacy, and oversight by civil society organizations.
