The conflict over land continues to be a sensitive and contentious issue as refugees are repatriated and the Burundian population grows. USAID supports conflict mitigation and reconciliation to advance a sustained peace in Burundi following the prolonged civil war. USAID and implementing partners help reinforce the capacity to deal with conflict constructively, fostering dialogue among diverse groups, and helping Burundians reconcile with their past. In the East Africa region, we help strengthen regional government institutions, improve transparency ,and enhance regional trade. This collaboration with other donors and civil society brings peace dividends to citizens of the region.
