Education: Success StoriesBenin's Outstanding Contribution to GLOBE Program Success In Novebmer 2004, the General Education Secondary School (CEG1) of Lokossa in Benin received official congratulations for their invaluable contribution to environmental science through their persistent collection of atmospheric data and its use as part of a GLOBE project focussing on malaria, a widespread disease in Africa.Trafficked Children return home This is the story about a woman who went from a career in child trafficking to championing women's rights. She accomplished this by empowering women and girls in her community through the efforts of a USAID-funded project. Saved from Early Forced Marriage in Kpessanrou Imagine a girl promised in marriage to a much older man. A dowry, or bride-price, has been paid and her family is pleased with having one less mouth to feed. Her school education is jeopardized since she is expected to get pregnant at an early age. The course of her life has been set. Many of her human rights have been taken away. Peer Tutoring: Helping Girl Students in Northern Benin Working with grassroots communities for changes in attitudes and perception, involving them in all phases of project activity, including identification of problems, appropriate activities and the implementation process, are essential in fighting for the promotion of girls' education and for development
