Program Successes: Trafficking in Persons

USAID and our partners are committed to stopping trafficking. From October 2005 through September 2008, the following was accomplished:

  • 308 trafficking survivors released/rescued.
  • A total of 548 trafficking survivors received legal aid, health care, counseling and other rehabilitation support including livelihood skill training.
  • 520 Officers-in-Charge including 156 inspector level officers and 28 immigration officials in land ports received training for enhancing prosecutorial capacity and ensuring legal support for the survivors.
  • A total of 1,352 lawyers and prosecutors received training for enhancing their capacity of providing legal support to the survivors through the collaborative effort of the law enforcement agencies.
  • 1,086 sensitization sessions were held with the Local Government Chairmen and members to organize them in the prevention of human trafficking in their communities.
  • TV spots and a documentary film shown on both national and private television stations.
  • Four Community Information Centers (CICs) operate in Cyclone SIDR-affected areas (southern Bangladesh) to provide the community with information on safe migration and the risk of labor form of trafficking.
