Other Sources of Information Technology SupportAfricaLink is a support activity funded and housed within an office of USAID that is particularly concerned with programs in agriculture, the environment, and natural resource management. Because the funding comes from this particular office, AfricaLink focuses its activities in those specific programmatic areas. Perhaps you work in a government ministry, research institute, non-governmental organization, or some other place where your principal work is not in one of the program areas targeted by AfricaLink. Even if your program area overlaps with that of AfricaLink, perhaps you have no existing partner relationship with USAID. In these cases, you will need to look elsewhere for assistance. Within USAID there is one project that specifically targets the information technology sector. Please do consult the Leland Initiative web pages. Because the Leland Initiative is a project rather than simply a support activity like AfricaLink, it is sometimes free to establish new working relationships in the countries where it is active. If you already have a working relationship with someone within USAID, such as in the education sector, or in a health program, discuss your information technology interests with that person. Make sure your contact within USAID is aware that general information technology assistance is available to all USAID programs through the Program Technology Transfer unit of the USAID Division of Consulting and Information Services. The web site http://inside.usaid.gov/M/IRM/CIS/PTT/ for this Division can be viewed by anyone within USAID, but is not accessible to the general public. You may wish to jot down the web site address and provide it to your USAID contact. Please be sure and write the address exactly as you see it here. Upper and lower case letters do matter, as an "M" is not at all the same as an "m". If you do not presently have a working relationship with USAID, and none of the above seems appropriate for you, then you may wish to learn more about other projects and programs outside of USAID. Permit us to point you to a very useful reference, the library of a consultant in Africa who frequently provides assistance to AfricaLink. We hope you find this reference useful, though obviously we can provide no guarantees or warranties of any kind. The address is: http://www3.sn.apc.org/africa/ As before, please pay due attention to upper and lower case letters. |
