- Staff of SARI are expected to play key roles in a West Africa cowpea network, as well as a West Africa cover crops network.
- They are presently linked to the Internet for email only at about 2400bps using a radio phone. Phone bills on this system reportedly run $5000 to $6000 per month.

- A staff person of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture was identified to be responsible for advising on improvements both at SARI and at the agricultural research institute in Pokuase, site of an IPM program.
- A leading option includes a 2.4GHz spread spectrum radio system operating at 64,000bps, costing about $8000 installed, plus $1500 per month.
- Two companies are competing to install the system. Both pledge to show SARI and Pokuase how to use the Internet for overseas telephoning to save money.
