TIRANA, ALBANIA—U.S. Ambassador to Albania, Donald Lu, joined today Albania’s Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, and members of the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections and for Sustainable Democracy (CFFE) to announce the finding and recommendations of a survey on primary healthcare facilities in Albania.  USAID provided funding to the organization to conduct a one-day, statistically based observation of health facilities nationwide.  The goal of the project was to support local civil society organizations to serve as watchdogs holding public institutions accountable to provide mandated public services.

Throughout the process, CFFE worked closely with the Ministry of Health and both the Minister of Health and the Prime Minister have tweeted results of the survey.  In his remarks, Ambassador Lu noted the Government of Albania’s support.  “It is impressive that this survey was done with the full support of the Ministry of Health and Minister Beqaj.  They asked for this data to focus their reforms and understand better where changes must be made.”
