Today USAID and a local NGO, Assist Impact, in partnership with the School of Magistrates, announced the launch of the “Manual on the Albanian Insolvency Law” to support business development in Albania. Today, USAID/Albania delivered to Albania’s Central Inspectorate (CI) 260 Portable Inspection Kits that consist of laptop computers and portable scanners and printers for inspectors to use in the field for efficient, on-line, real-time inspections. Government inspections are vital for ensuring regulations that safeguard human health, safety, and the environment are properly functioning.

TIRANA, MAY 15, 2013 Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, opened this year’s National Court Leadership Conference organized by USAID’s Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST) in co-operation with the OSCE Presence in Albania and in partnership with the High Council of Justice and the Ministry of Justice. Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy, Henry Jardine, and the Minister of Justice, Eduard Halimi, also made opening remarks.
With support from the USAID’s Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST), and in cooperation with the Law Faculty of the University of Tirana, the Serious Crimes First Instance Court organized today an Open Day at the court.
POGRADEC, MAY 8, 2013 USAID joined in the celebrations on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Albanian Justice Day by supporting the Pogradeci District Court to organize an Open Day at the court. This was the first such activity in the newly-refurbished courthouse inaugurated on December 3, 2012. The activities included a mock trial on a domestic violence case, and a court knowledge competition with the participation of local high school students, as well as a roundtable between members of the public and the court leadership and staff.
Finding judicial decisions in Albania is now much easier. The Magistrates’ Schools, with USAID support, has built an online portal which allows judges, prosecutors, lawyers, students and the general public to search a database of judicial decisions from 1999 to the present.
