U.S. Ambassador Donald Lu and Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti delivered remarks today at a conference to celebrate the first anniversary of USAID's AgroCapital project.
TIRANA, February 11, 2015—In response to a request for assistance from the Government of Albania, the U.S. Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide up to $750,000 in additional technical and financial assistance for those in agricultural areas who have been affected by the recent flooding.

A little over a year ago, Minister Cuci, you invited us here to launch the Territorial and Administrative reform of your country. Since then, political and legislative decisions have been taken to consolidate Albania’s 373 local government units into 61.
A milestone to create the basis for viable local government units is reached.
It was a complex, yet successful process which you led in an open, consultative, and timely manner. We commend you for that.
TIRANA, JANUARY 28, 2015—Today, more than one hundred people showed up for the screening of a new documentary, “Economic Empowerment of People with Disabilities through Employment,” a film about a unique program that has helped people with disabilities in Albania overcome isolation and prejudice and enter into the country’s labor workforce. The film was introduced by USAID Country Representative, Marcus Johnson, the Minister of Social Welfare and Youth, Mr. Erion Veliaj and Blerta Çani, ADRF Executive Director.
The improvement of court efficiency brought together today a high level meeting of justice sector stakeholders at the Ministry of Justice, organized with the support of the USAID’s JuST project and the OSCE Presence in Albania.

Creative Business Solutions (CBS) in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the AgroCapital program-aimed to strengthen access to capital for Albanian agribusinesses, today in a roundtable meeting in Tirana. The event was kicked off by Albanian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Edmond Panariti and USAID’s Country Director Mr. David Cowles with opening speeches.
Today U.S. Ambassador Alexander Arvizu and Prime Minister Edi Rama inaugurated renovations financed by USAID at the Regional Hospital in Lezha. The Ambassador, Prime Minister, and Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, cut the ceremonial ribbon and unveiled memorial plaques recognizing USAID assistance to the hospital and then toured the hospital to view other USG investments. The Regional Hospital of Lezha is one of three “pilot” hospitals that USAID has been working with on adopting better hospital management systems.
Today USAID and a local NGO, Assist Impact, in partnership with the School of Magistrates, announced the launch of the “Manual on the Albanian Insolvency Law” to support business development in Albania. USAID/Albania Mission Director, Jim Barnhart, and Assist Impact’s Deputy Director, Bruna Stamo, and the Head of the Magistrates School, Neshat Fana, delivered remarks at a ceremony held at the Magistrate’s School.
