Promoting Inclusion and Participation of Deaf People in Communities Through Sign Language

Funding Period: December 2008 - November 2010

Funding Amount: $191,768

In Uganda, the Uganda National Association of the Deaf (UNAD) will establish a program with the aim of providing sign language training in order to increase the inclusion of people who are deaf into Ugandan society and increase access to basic human rights.

Specifically the program will

  • provide sign language training for people who are deaf, as well as people with hearing, who can serve as future interpreters
  • provide sign language training to family members of people who are deaf
  • build the capacity of four district deaf associations to more effectively advocate for the rights of the deaf
